Review

The world presented is comprehensive and detailed, making Joss Wheadon's feature film debut a weighty and rich portrait at the intersection of fantasy and science fiction (although the film is in spirit more related to the former). Stylistically and thematically, Serenity is ambitious but only moderately inventive; we're given well-choreographed action and adventure in a world where The Matrix meets the western genre and embarks on an intergalactic road-trip. Enjoyable at its best, but Wheadon can't refrain from being only slightly less pulpy and unscrupulously geeky than he was in his previous TV-series.
