Handsome leading man of mainstream American films of the 1980s and 1990s, who first gained attention as a child actor in major productions such as E.T. and The Outsiders, before making a successful transition to adult roles with the now cult classic The Hitcher (1986) and the should-be cult classic Kid (1990). After a strong start to the 1990s, his career faded, and Howell spent the remainder of the decade and the 2000s mostly appearing in various direct-to-video action movies.
