PORTRAIT

Talented, powerful actor, reminiscent of a young and more rural Christopher Walken, who has worked his way up through bit parts and small supporting roles to a status as one of the most sought-after character actors in American film. His big breakthrough came as the mentally ill John Givings in Sam Mendes drama Revolutionary Road in 2008 - a part he was Oscar nominated for. His perhaps best work, however, has come in the films of independent filmmaker Jeff Nichols, first in Shotgun Stories in 2007 and then an immaculate performance as a man tormented by apocalyptic dreams in Take Shelter, for which he won a host of awards.
