Kathleen Turner
FILMOGRAPHY (ONLY REVIEWED ENTRIES)
Kathleen Turner burst onto the scene in the early 1980s with a husky voice, commanding presence, and a simmering sensuality that instantly set her apart. She and co-star William Hurt became major stars almost overnight with Body Heat, and Turner followed it up with a string of bold, memorable performances that combined wit, strength, and allure – often with a dangerous or unpredictable edge. Whether in stylised thrillers, romantic adventures, or sharp-edged comedies, she brought a fierce intelligence to her roles, often playing women who were both desirable and deeply self-possessed. She was Oscar-nominated for Peggy Sue Got Married and enjoyed great success throughout the decade, particularly in her collaborations with Michael Douglas. Illness and a changing industry slowed her career in the 1990s, but she remained active, later earning praise on stage and for select character roles that showcased her gravitas and dry humour – most notably a fantastic guest turn as Chandler Bing's transgender father on the sitcom Friends.
