Review
The contentious subject matter of
incest and sexual abuse was quite topical in the movie business in
the 2000s, and it is handled both cleverly and fairly tactfully in
this Danish film from writer Kim Fupz Aakeson and director Jacob
Thuesen. Troels Lyby and Sofie Gråbøl play a 30-something couple
whose steady lives are shaken when their only daughter, the
14-year-old Stine, accuses her father of molesting her. The ensuing
investigation, court proceedings, and healing process are distinctly
– perhaps even refreshingly – North European in essence. And
director Thuesen succeeds in balancing his film between serious
drama and intense thriller for most of its running time. There are
solid, bare-skinned performances from the three principal leads.
