Review
This William Friedkin vehicle is a fairly
run-of-the-mill thriller with such a prosaic look that its $55 million
budget seems astounding – a reminder of how Hollywood has changed over
the past few decades. Benicio del Toro plays a crazed, war-fatigued SOF
veteran who roams the woods killing people (Rambo,
anyone?), while Tommy Lee Jones is the former combat instructor turned
wildlife preservationist who trained him – and now is tasked with
tracking him down. The classic cat-and-mouse game that ensues may engage
you to watch with half an eye, but outside the physical thrills it's so
forgettable that you probably won't take much notice. Del Toro's
antagonist is an utterly unremarkable creation, whereas the always
watchable Jones does a little more with his part.
