Review
Frank Drebin returns
to solve more stupid crime thanks to his clumsy behaviour and sheer
luck. Leslie Nielsen is able to make even the silliest lines and the
most embarrassing toilet humour funny with his deadpan delivery, so even
though David Zucker had lost the help of Jim Abrahams and his brother
Jerry on the writing side, and the ideas for this kind of comedy were
clearly starting to dry up, Naked Gun 2½ still has enough
hilarious moments to keep you watching all the way through this entirely
predictable farce of a crime story. Highlights include a gala dinner at
the White House, with John Roarke giving a fine impersonation of
President George H. W. Bush while Lt. Drebin is wreaking unintentional
havoc, and Drebin's vendetta with Hector Savage, played by Anthony James
with a delightful little nod to John Cazale. Followed by
The Naked Gun 33⅓: The
Final Insult in 1994.
