Review
Time-travelling fighter pilot
Ryan Reynolds crash-lands in 2022 and must get help from his 12-year-old
self (Walker Scobell) in order to resume and complete a complex mission.
Alternate timestreams, super-villainous antagonists, and video-game-ish
dogfights ensue – none of which ever feel relevant or spirited. They're
just there to fulfill genre conventions without copying previous entries
all too blatantly. Back to the Future this is not. But if you're
willing to sit through the action cliches, The Adam Project
rewards you with some fine interpersonal drama between the young
and grown-up Adam, their mother (Jennifer Garner) and their deceased dad
(Mark Ruffalo). Young Walker Scobell is a gem, he's like an adolescent
version of Reynolds, and the quips and banter between them are just as
funny as the affection they share is heartfelt.
