Review
This
is a powerful story about the young couple Tami Oldham and Richard
Sharp who in 1983 agreed to sail another couple's Trintella 44
sailing yacht from Tahiti to San Diego, but were caught up in the
path of Hurricane Raymond. Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur (101
Reykjavik, Contraband,
Everest) has already
demonstrated his ability to recapture and render wild nature via the
big screen, and he does so again very skilfully here. The film has
some obvious similarities with
All Is Lost, another brilliant
film about being lost at sea, but Adrift is more ambitious
narratively, even if it is not quite as engrossing as J. C.
Chandor's movie.
