Review
Based
on the horrific Überlingen mid-air collision, the reason for which
was several unfortunate circumstances in concurrence, this film
almost pays respect to history and the involved parties. It stars
Arnold Schwarzenegger as a bereaved father and husband, and Scoot
McNairy as an air traffic controller who was working at the time of
the accident. Both actors get plenty of room to excel. McNairy does,
but Schwarzenegger is (obviously) out of his depth, despite a
wholehearted effort. It is unfathomable to me that the casting
people didn't see this coming. Still, the film remains interesting
and effective in an old-fashioned TV movie way, meaning heavy focus
on simple emotions and not too much on nuance. Which is
disappointing, considering the remarkable nature of the real-life
story; a story that should have been brought to the screen on a
larger budget.
