Review
If ever there was a slasher
film that epitomizes the 80s, it's this one: a shopping mall, R2D2-like
killer robots, and a bunch of hair-sprayed teenagers running around in
Levi's jeans. Filmmaker Jim Wynorski scores points for not taking himself
too seriously and for getting B-movie dialogue to sound quite natural.
But the basic premise is ridiculous for the film's (and the time's)
level of sophistication. There's absolutely nothing scary about these
slow-moving, clunky robots who obviously would struggle to tip over even a
waggly toddler. Wynorski tries his best to come up with gags that could
make his cheap SFX look impressive, but you can almost see the props
guy's hands working just off frame.
