Review
Coherence hints to its own effect in the title: Yes, this is
quite the coherent film about parallel universes, at least compared
to most fiction based on theories such as the ones presented here.
And while this - and the very pleasant fact that the conversations
between these four dinner-partying 30-something couples feel
remarkably natural and free-flowing - is a fine basis for an
effective sci-fi / psychological thriller, writer/director James
Ward Byrkit ultimately goes so far with his ideas on a pure
quantitative level that it's hard for us to keep caring - both about
his story and about these characters. Their actions and behaviour
here implies a very mechanistic explanation of the human mind which
you'll have to buy into in order for this film to feel completely,
well, coherent.
