Oriol Paulo is the Spanish writer/director behind this clever and often mesmerizing thriller about a man arrested for the murder of his lover who hires a prestigious attorney in order to build a defence before the trial. Paulo's script is playful in the best possible sense of the word. It explores known territories with an abundance of fresh angles, and Paulo's story is brilliantly constructed without ever coming off as contrived. The film plays like a cross between Memento and El secreto de sus ojos, as directed by Stanley Kubrick. It's inventive, seductive and constantly engaging.
