Review

Although the subject matter in The Howling is a little too familiar in the horror realm to really get you to the edge of your seat, the film is so well made and free-flowing that it's almost impossible not to enjoy it on some level. Director Joe Dante shows his flair and vision in making the most of what he's got, and thanks to innovative special effects by Rob Bottin (which incidentally holds up brilliantly compared to current CGI effects) the film even manages to create some chilling scenes and images amidst a plot otherwise seasoned with hints of black comedy.
