Review
Who wouldn't like to know how Anja
Breien's fascinating characters had fared during the ten years that had passed since the original
Hustruer
was released in 1975? Unfortunately, watching this sequel will leave
you none the wiser. The screenplay, by Breien and novelist Knut
Faldbakken, is bumpy, contrived and strangely uninspired. It's as if
neither Breien nor the cast quite remembered what made these women
appealing to the audience, and so their previous nuances and
contradictions were replaced by incessant frustrations, awkward
vulgarisms and a simple, subservient quest for the affection of men.
The fact that the production values and cinematography also had deteriorated since 1975 doesn't help the cause either.
