Review

James Woods is impressive as early 20th century serial killer Carl Panzram in this potentially gripping character study lacking a satisfactory framework. As Henry Lesser, the prison guard to whom Panzram reveals his inner thoughts and secrets, Robert Sean Leonard is well cast, but his character is underdeveloped and the relation between the two lacks dynamic. Writer/director Tim Metcalfe's work is too undaring and bland to make Killer: A Journal of Murder into the engrossing movie experience it should and could have been.
