Review
A
joyride for anyone growing up during the 80s as well as an effective and
fairly fresh romantic comedy. The characters don’t act as human beings
when the film’s structure need them to perform other purposes, but
Grant and Barrymore are thoroughly charming in their own usual ways, and
they are cute and occasionally funny in their mutual scenes. Still, the
most valuable asset of Music and Lyrics is its delicate
combination of ridiculing and celebrating the good old 80s and the
wonderfully synthetic music that came out of the decade. The music, by
Adam Schlesinger, is at its best as good as the classics themselves, and
the opening music video is worth the entrance fee alone.
