Review
This guilty pleasure is deep-rooted in
late 1980s American action filmmaking, complete with its stereotypical
psychopaths and smooth-talking, invincible nice guys. Although the story
told here is deeply tragic in essence, director Kevin Hooks is having
far too much fun to let that bring him down. He's simply enjoying
tracking too-cool-for-school Wesley Snipes around while he saves the day
for amateurish local police and ignorant federal agents. And with the
suave Bruce Payne making Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter look like a
stressed-out party-pooper, you're in for a real treat - if you're
willing to go with the premise. And of course we are, because rarely has
skyjacking and the murdering of innocent people been made more carefree
and enjoyable. Tom Sizemore looks like a million bucks in his supporting
role as Sly Delvecchio.
