Rumble in the Bronx (1995)
It's hard not to be impressed by the fantastic athleticism of Jackie Chan. His success was built on it, and Rumble in the Bronx represents something of a commercial breakthrough for him in Hollywood and the rest of the Western Hemisphere. The movie's style mirrors Chan's playing style – over the top and lacking any kind of connection to realism. This is moviemaking with the sole intention of being fun, much like the collaborations between Hal Needham and Chan's co-star from The Cannonball Run, Burt Reynolds. It may work for those who are easily entertained and not looking for anything clever. Plus if you're willing to put up with a feeble attempt at a romantic sub-plot (between Chan and Anita Mui). The great clips during the end credits reveal that Rumble in the Bronx belongs to the group of films which probably were more fun making than watching. Copyright © 02.02.1998
