Review
Mission: Impossible meets the
The Towering Inferno in this disaster/action yarn in
which Dwayne Johnson goes to ridiculous lengths to save his family
from a burning super-skyscraper. As any Hollywood aficionado knows,
American family values are stronger than the elements, not to speak
of super-evil villains. The film boasts impressive production values
and some entertaining action sequences, most notably whenever
Johnson goes out on a ledge, but unfortunately, the entertainment
value shrinks in accordance with the escalating silliness.
Writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber has got no feel for anything
interpersonal. He directs like a runaway train. And the ludicrous
acting among some of the supporting players makes Johnson's
whole-hearted lead performance look quite good.
