Review
This American remake of the French hit
comedy Trois hommes et un couffin was a major box-office
success, largely thanks to its unabrasive handling of a simple but
timeless premise: What if three 30-something urban bachelors
suddenly found themselves stuck with a baby? The ensuing
complications are as unremarkable as they are amusingly recognisable
for anyone who has had the pleasure of getting themselves accustomed
to life with a baby. And although the film never becomes brilliant
or roaringly funny, it has a welcoming cordiality and lack of
political reflection that is hard to find in similar contemporary
American movies. All three lead actors give agreeable, sincere
performances, making you feel their frustrations and affectations.
