Review
Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund
demonstrated his particular outlook on and scrutiny of some of the less
illuminated aspects of human dysfunction and disillusion with
Turist, marketed internationally as Force Majeure. The
film presents and dissects a young couple whose harbouring disappointment with each
other surfaces in the face of a pending catastrophe. Östlund infuses
his movie with an aesthetic playfulness, but it's his constant
underlining of the comedic aspect of every distressing situation his
self-absorbed characters find themselves in which is
the key to Turist's transcendence into the upper echelons of
modern European arthouse filmmaking.
