John Carpenter
FILMOGRAPHY (ONLY REVIEWED ENTRIES)
A real movie buff who broke onto the scene as one of the directors of New Hollywood during the 1970s, first with the tense and stylistically impressive low-budget thriller/drama Assault on Precinct 13 (1976), and then with the slasher hit Halloween (1978). One of the most impressive aspects of Carpenter's filmmaking was his distinctive, synth-based musical scores, which not only elevated his films but were also groundbreaking in their own respect. From the early 1980s, Carpenter was tempted by larger studios and bigger budgets, which slowly evaporated the characteristic style of his earlier films. But he still continued to make films that have since gained a cult following for various reasons, such as Escape from New York, The Fog, The Thing, Starman, and Prince of Darkness.
