Dustin Hoffman
FILMOGRAPHY (ONLY REVIEWED ENTRIES)
Essentially a character actor – and a remarkably good one – Dustin Hoffman burst onto the scene and became a modern movie star overnight after starring in Mike Nichols' The Graduate in 1967. In the process, he redefined the leading-man role, and alongside figures such as Robert Redford and Warren Beatty, he came to epitomize the new male ideal of the 1970s: sensitive, soft, intellectual, and fashion-conscious. Hoffman excelled in a number of political and socially relevant films during the 1970s, notably All the President's Men and Kramer vs. Kramer, before turning to more commercial material in the 1980s with films such as Tootsie, Rain Man, and Hook. Nevertheless, his performances never faltered, and Hoffman has remained one of Hollywood's most consistent and accomlished actors for more than half a century.
