FILMMAKER FILMOGRAPHY (ONLY REVIEWED ENTRIES)
Tommy Lee Jones has worked in the movie business since the early 1970s, but he didn't become a star until the late 80s/early 90s, through roles in productions such as Lonesome Dove, JFK, and The Fugitive. This was twenty years after he had made his debut with a small role in Arthur Hiller's highly successful Love Story, and subsequently paying his dues in television and bit parts. When he rose to prominence, however, Jones filled a niche that made him an instant audience favourite. Usually in supporting roles, he brings a combination of edge and softness to his performances. His deep, sad eyes, weathered skin, and friendly smile make him a compatible casting choice. In the 1990s, Jones also stepped up to leading roles, in films such as The Client and Men in Black. In 2005, he made his directorial debut with the western The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, for which he won the Best Actor award in Cannes and was nominated for the Palme d'Or.
