This boyishly handsome, devilishly charming Brit has captivated movie audiences since breaking onto the scene in the mid-1990s. Law first demonstrated his potential star power in I Love You, I Love You Not (1996), and the following year, he had major roles in three big productions: Wilde, Gattaca, and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Law had a standout year in 1999, when he excelled in David Cronenberg’s eXistenZ and Anthony Minghella’s The Talented Mr. Ripley. He was nominated for his first Academy Award in 2004 for his performance in Cold Mountain, and delivered one of his best roles that same year in Closer. In later years, his work has been more uneven, with a couple of poor character choices and performances below his usual high standards.
