Review

This obscure 1988 film has unpolished performances from its three young and talented leads and a semi-interesting story by playwright John Patrick Shanley, who tries to weave civil rights engagement and social issues into a fairly straightforward crime story in what was arguably a rather personal script for him. It could have worked – had it been helmed by a more skilled director. Because Tony Bill is never able to find the right tone for the film. His scenes flutter about and lack the framework necessary to ground the picture's occasional frivolousness and banalities.
