Tall,
unconventionally handsome character actor and later director who was
able to build himself an unlikely career in the American movie
business from the late 1980s, often playing gullible, unwitting
characters. His breakthrough movie was the western Bill Durham in 1988,
on which he also met his future wife
Susan Sarandon.
After impressive parts in critically acclaimed films such as
Jacob's Ladder,
The Player, The
Hudsucker Proxy
and
Shawshank
Redemption, Robbins
recruited his wife and
Sean Penn and directed the
brilliant anti-capital punishment drama Dead
Man Walking
in 1995. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his efforts. In
later years, Robbins has been more picky as an actor, but he did
impressive supporting work in movies such as
Mission To Mars,
High Fidelity
and
Mystic River. |
