Review
Hectic and uneven (to
say the least) comedy based around the physical comedy of Jim Carrey and
(reportedly) loosely around the 1977 George Segal/Jane Fonda flick with
the same name. Fun with Dick and Jane may be an exaggerated
title, but you should at least find some amusement along the line.
The film is at its best
early on when Carrey's performance still looks inspired, and when the
film has some useful social satire to offer. However, as the downward
spiral goes over the top, and the film becomes a comedy version of
Mr. and Mrs.
Smith, we're left with an unfocused film that
unfortunately is rarely funny, despite the engaging actors (particularly
Leoni and Jenkins) unreserved efforts. In the end, Fun with Dick and
Jane is predictable, saccharine and not too much fun.
