Review
When Stephen King was to make his
directorial debut, after having seen several of his stories and scripts turned
into successful movies, he probably shouldn't have chosen a story as lame and
limited in scope as this one. The concept is the danger of large machinery,
specifically trucks (which incidentally is the name of King's 1973 short story
upon which the script is based). If you've spent your entire life writing
stories from the comfort of your desk, trucks may well appear scary, but there's
nothing in this film to suggest why. King isn't able to translate his perceived
ominousness to the screen, and Maximum
Overdrive also has no drive, let alone overdrive. With bad production values
to top it off, the film seems downright laughable in retrospect. The only plus
point is a couple of cool AC/DC tracks.
