Review
A
spirited performance by Bridget Fonda keeps this somewhat awkward
remake of Luc Besson's Nikita watchable and at times
enjoyable. Unfortunately, John Badham's direction is clumsy,
especially in the many overdone action sequences, and what could
have been a poignant story therefore turns into rather shallow pulp
fiction. The many below-par performances by well-known actors giving
it their semi-best in stereotypical parts don't help the case
either. There's a stellar cast, with names such as Gabriel Byrne,
Dermot Mulroney, Anne Bancroft and Harvey Keitel, but they are
underutilised. Also known as The Assassin.
