Review
Crispin Glover's wild overacting puts
an almost insurmountable dent in this otherwise remarkable story
about the murder of a young girl and how the whole community of her
friends from the other side of the tracks deal with the situation in
all the wrong ways. The film tackles issues such as poverty and
alienation with a sense of balance and nuance, but also with an
unmistakable sense of camp. There's a bleakness and aimlessness
mixed in with an aesthetic which doesn't always gel, but which at
least will keep you interested. And the picture certainly taps into
something thought-provoking, perhaps even true. The score by Jürgen
Knieper sounds weirdly outdated today.
