Review
This
1980s semi-classic starts off slowly and rather uninspired, with a
bewildered Kathleen Turner playing a romance writer who lacks a
romantic life of her own, but it picks up once a spirited Michael
Douglas enters the scene and takes Turner along on an adventure in
the Colombian jungle, chased by a host of sinister characters. Diane
Thomas' script feels almost as pulp as Joan Wilders' novels, and
Robert Zemeckis' direction is somewhat stiff and unlifelike, but the
film does have an innocent charm and some fun moments that along
with Michael Douglas' energy makes it very much watchable, even
downright enjoyable at times.
