Review
Spending 90 minutes with the
young, wide-eyed Corey Haim is almost as enjoyable as immersing yourself
in Stephen King’s familiar, atmospheric take on small-town America in the
1970s and 1980s, both of which are on offer in this little spooky
film. The only so-so prosthetic effects may not exactly scare the
bejesus out of modern-day viewers, but instead, you’ll find yourself
invested in the story thanks to agreeable pacing and King’s knack for writing
believable, appealing characters. And despite an undeniable
predictability and an arguably underwhelming ending, the film vehemently
refuses not to take itself seriously.
