Review
The first in the three Spider-Man
movies starring Tobey Maguire is also the best in this franchise. A
young and fresh-faced Maguire is the perfect basis for spinning the
story of how Peter Parker stumbles across and then familiarizes himself
with his superhero powers. For many, this is the most fun part in any
superhero movie, and Sam Raimi and Maguire are undoubtedly enjoying
themselves with it here. The film continues with a fine blend of simple,
heartfelt drama (the relationship between Parker and his uncle/aunt),
cute romance (Mary Jane), and good old-fashioned superhero action with
Willem Dafoe in fine playful form.
