Review
A fresh-faced Charlie Sheen is a
fledgling stockbroker in New York City desperate to get involved
with the super-successful Wall Street investor Gordon Gekko (Michael
Douglas). This morality tale isn’t as clear-cut and simple as you
might think based on its commercial success and year of release.
Director and co-writer Oliver Stone, himself the son of a Depression
Era stockbroker, demonstrates a savvy ability to make entertainment
out of a predilection for numbers, villains and tacky interior
design. And save for a few cheap points towards the end and a
terribly stilted Daryl Hannah as the love interest, this is a rather
delightful journey into 1980s extravaganza elevated by a brilliant
performance from Douglas.
