Hapless social misfits find violence and dire situations in the most absurd places in Danish filmmaker Anders Thomas Jensen's films, ranging from the macabre butchers in De grønne slagtere to the vindictive military man and former bully victims in Retfærdighedens ryttere. His insignia and skillfulness has given both him and his regular crewmates, such as Mads Mikkelsen, recognition far beyond Danish borders. And in addition to the handful of films he has written and directed himself, he has also delivered an abundance of other successful scripts, most notably to the Susanne Bier films Efter brylluppet, Hævnen, and En chance til. Jensen doesn't exactly have a bleeding heart, but he certainly has shown an understanding for a wide array of human flaws and miseries.
