BIO

Talented, unconventionally beautiful leading lady in American mainstream and independent cinema since the late 1990s. She burst onto the scene with her powerful and off-beat award-winning performance as trans man Brandon Teena in Boys Don't Cry in 1999. Swank is one of few actors to have been nominated for two Academy Awards for best part in a leading role, and winning both. The second time she did it was for Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby. Subsequently, Swank has often been typecast in similar parts where she has played women whose identity falls outside of traditional gender roles in one way or another – often strong, independent women with traditional masculine qualities.
