Review
1970s
style gangster movie with solid acting, familiar conflicts and never
quite enough depth to warrant anything else than a somewhat
detached, observatory viewing. Brian de Palma directs with technical
sleight of hand, and Al Pacino and Sean Penn give engaging
performances in a traditional/untraditional part, respectively. It's
just that the film never really catches fire – that is, until Viggo
Mortensen appears in a fantastic three minute scene.
