Brian De Palma
FILMOGRAPHY (ONLY REVIEWED ENTRIES)
Brian De Palma is one of the most distinguished and distinctive filmmakers who made a name for themselves during the New Hollywood era, along with Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Paul Schrader and William Friedkin, even if De Palma certainly isn't one of the most decorated among them, having never been nominated for either an Academy Award, a Golden Globe or a Cannes Award. Despite of this, De Palma has a special place in the hearts of cinephiles, not least for his ability to fuse his characteristic visual signature in with several genres and themes. He is perhaps most renowned for utilizing and bringing horror tropes to serious mainstream cinema, which he did successfully in several of his earlier triumphs, such as Carrie, Dressed to Kill and Blow Out. In the new millennium, De Palma's movies have mostly been box office bombs and lambasted by the critics, starting with 2002's Femme Fatale.
