Goldfinger (1964)
See our full list of James Bond films.
After two films directed by
Terence Young, the producers turned to original first-choice Guy
Hamilton for this third entry in the James Bond series. And his subtle
changes within the already set formula made the world of 007 feel more
real and dangerous. With an increased budget, some entertaining new
gadgets and plot devices, and an impeccable Sean Connery hitting peak
form in the role, Goldfinger stands as a highlight among the
first few films in the series. And although the picture also boasts its
share of ridiculous villains (Oddjob) and hapless actresses (Tania Mallett),
there are several memorable bits and pieces in here that in retrospect
have become iconic. Followed by Thunderball
(1965).
