Richard Gere
FILMOGRAPHY (ONLY REVIEWED ENTRIES)
With his model good looks and standoffish mystique, Richard Gere broke through in several high profile romantic/erotic films by critically acclaimed directors during the late 1970s and early 1980s, starting with a supporting role as Diane Keaton's one-night-stand in Looking for Mr. Goodbar and continuing with Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven, Paul Schrader's American Gigolo and the box-office hit An Officer and a Gentleman. At this point, Gere was seen as one of the biggest new movie stars of the 1980s, but he struggled to follow up his early promise before making a triumphant return in a number of romantic lead roles in the 1990, starting with Pretty Woman. Despite often being criticized for a lack of depth, Gere has an ability to carry films with engaging, retained performances.
