One of the greatest and most prominent filmmakers of the 20th century, Stanley Kubrick's films ranged from biting satires to chilling horror – with the common denominator always being his assured style and notoriously strenuous shoots. His catalogue of films include a remarkable number of the most discussed and hailed motion pictures in film history, including Paths of Glory, Dr. Stangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange and The Shining. And even if most of his films were underappreciated by critics at the time of release, they have almost without exception been acclaimed as masterpieces and gained cult followings since.
