Talented and imcomparable character actor who worked his way through the ranks in the business starring in smaller, independent films and doing bit parts in larger scale films. Giamatti excelled in character roles in successful comedies such as Private Parts and Man on the Moon before finally getting his major breakthrough with a starring role in the offbeat hit American Splendor. Giamatti followed up the next year with a remarkable performance in Alexander Payne's Sideways, and after several years as a supporting actor in big productions gave a superb, award-winning performance as Barney Panofsky in Barney's Version in 2010.
