BIO
One
of film history's biggest stars and sex symbols, Paul Newman broke
through in the wake of Marlon
Brando's and James Dean's success, as one of the so-called
methods actors. Among his early work in this period was Cat on a Hot
Tin Roof opposite Elizabeth Taylor. All through the 1960s and 70s,
he was both one of Hollywood's top box office stars and one of the most
frequently nominated actors for the Academy Award. Towards the end of
his career he appeared in more supporting roles, but he still continued
to attract lead work up until the end. Appeared in ten feature films
with wife Joanna Woodward, and he also directed her in Rachel, Rachel,
for which both was nominated for an Academy Award.

QUOTES
On
Marlon Brando:
"I've always envied Marlon's talent, which was always so much greater
than anybody else's. I feel cheated he hasn't made more films, but I
understand his reason. I think he felt that acting was not a manly
profession sometimes and sometimes I feel the same way. But with Marlon
it's more that he's too good for any of this."
