Nick Nolte's talent has often been underestimated, largely due to a somewhat uneven choice of roles throughout his career. Nolte came fairly late to prominence, breaking through with 48 Hrs. in 1982, and went on to become a bankable star throughout the 1980s. Still, many of his best performances came in the 1990s, notably in The Prince of Tides and Affliction. In later years, he has adapted to character roles and demonstrated considerable talent in films such as Hotel Rwanda, in what might well be his best ever performance.
