One of the most talented American actresses in her generation, along with names such as Meryl Streep and Glenn Close. With a less conspicious and often more introvert acting style than the two aforementioned, Spacek broke into the film world playing insecure teenagers (although she was considerably older in real-life) in the 1970s, notably in films such as Badlands and Carrie. In her best parts, Spacek gave deep, sensitivite and multilayered performances which made her a darling for both critics and audiences. And although her unconventional beauty made her easily identifiable, she managed to maintain a certain mystique that gave her a semi-cult status. Has in later years appeared more and more in independent films, often to rave reviews, such as in The Straight Story and In the Bedroom.
