Beautiful, icy-eyed performer with distinctive eyebrows and a winning smile who broke through in a well-written role as a junkie in Darren Aronofsky's brilliant Requiem for a Dream. She followed up a year later with a fine performance in another masterpiece, this time in Ron Howard's A Beautiful Mind, for which she was awarded an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Subsequently, Connelly has sought out challenging roles to further her career, but she has occasionally struggled to find the right tone for her performances, even though her talent usually shines through, most notably in Terry George's Reservation Road in 2007.
