Forceful and ruggedly handsome leading-man of the late 1990s and 2000s who made his international breakthrough with the award-winning Australian feature Romper Stomper in 1992, before going to Hollywood to make a string of critically acclaimed performances, topped with his Academy Award nominated turn as John Nash in A Beautiful Mind in 2001. He had already won the award the year before for his work in Ridley Scott's Gladiator, and subsequently, he has subscribed to every Ridley Scott film, seemingly losing his edge in the process.
