Being the daughter of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and named after Norwegian actress Liv Ullmann, it never seemed surprising that Liv Tyler would end up in the limelight. With classical beauty and an elegant 178 cm frame, she was also well suited to modelling – which she took up at the age of 14. However, it was her surprisingly mature performance in her debut film Silent Fall that put her on the cinematic map. Not all of Tyler's subsequent roles were equally impressive – and mainstream fare like Armageddon did little to boost her reputation as a serious actress – but she nevertheless secured an important role as Arwen in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. In the noughties she matured into less conventional roles in more independently minded films.
